About the role 

 

The Senior Advisor Health & Safety plays a key role in building safe, healthy and proactive work environments across our Operational Coal Seam Gas business. You’ll partner closely with operational leaders, influence positive safety behaviours, and support both day-to-day HSSE activities and longer-term strategic improvement initiatives. The role is responsible for leading health and safety strategies, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and support delivery of the Origin HSSE Strategy. The role involves providing expert guidance on risk management, HS compliance, overseeing incident investigations, and promoting continuous improvement in health and safety practices. By collaborating with senior leadership and cross-functional teams, the senior advisor enhances safety culture, mitigates risks, and ensures compliance across business units. 

 

Roma based on a 5:2 roster. Relocation support available.

 

More about the role 

 

  • Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of health and safety management programs to ensure full compliance with Australian HSE regulations and internal directives. 

  • Provide expert advice, coaching, and support to operational leaders to embed HSE strategies, policies, and practices effectively across the business. 

  • Partner with Site Safety Managers (SSMs) to ensure the robust implementation of the HSE Management System and the successful delivery of site-specific safety plans. 

  • Guide and coach leaders through the end-to-end contractor lifecycle, including selection, pre-mobilisation, assurance activities, and post-activity evaluations. 

  • Act as a senior Subject Matter Expert (SME) to lead thorough incident investigations and the development of effective mitigation strategies for complex risks. 

  • Lead and support internal and external safety audits, coaching leaders on addressing findings and implementing sustainable corrective actions. 

  • Mentor junior HSE professionals and coach senior leaders to foster a proactive safety culture that integrates health, safety, and "Respect at Work" principles into daily decision-making. 

  • Advise leaders on safety performance metrics and performance, including internal KPI’s to facilitate data-driven decisions and promote a culture of continuous learning and improvement.

More about you  

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, or a related field 

  • 5-10 years of experience in managing health and safety programs, including experience with strategic planning and compliance. 

  • Proven ability to lead incident investigations and conduct complex risk assessments across multiple business units or sites. 

  • Experience managing internal and external safety audits and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. 

  • Demonstrated experience in mentoring junior staff and driving improvements in safety culture. 

  • Experience working with senior leadership to integrate health and safety objectives into business strategies. 

 

Desirable qualifications  

 

  • Postgraduate qualifications 

  • ISO 45001: Lead Auditor certification 

  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or similar certifications.
