Join a team that's All Kinds of Useful

At Origin, being useful is more than a tagline - it’s how we approach work every day. As a collective, we’re a team that thrives on finding better ways, working together, and owning our impact. From powering homes to delivering award-winning internet and helping to lead Australia’s energy transition. If you’re driven by purpose and excited to be part of something bigger, we’d love to have you on the journey.

About the role:

Origin Zero is building the operational infrastructure to deliver clean energy at scale, and this role sits at the heart of that – owning the compliance function that keeps us licensed to operate. As Compliance Lead, you won't manage a team, but you will operate as a business leader: the expert who takes complex regulatory and legislative requirements and translates them into practical, operational frameworks the business can actually use.

You'll own the obligations register end to end, standing up new compliance obligations, embedding accountability across teams, and maintaining a living, auditable view of everything Origin Zero is required to do.

You'll lead our environmental compliance work, including carbon and energy efficiency schemes, and you'll be the go-to expert when regulation changes and the business needs to understand what that means and implement that in a practical way.

Your primary stakeholders are operational teams and Value Stream leads, so you'll need to be as comfortable facilitating leadership conversations as you are in the detail of an obligations framework.

Why this role matters?

  • Compliance at Origin Zero isn't a checkbox exercise – you'll shape how the business internalises its regulatory obligations and builds accountability into daily operations.
  • You'll own our obligations register as a living business tool, not a compliance archive, and you'll be responsible for keeping our controls current as the regulatory landscape evolves.
  • Environmental and carbon scheme compliance is growing fast. You'll lead our response to energy efficiency scheme obligations and help Origin Zero stay ahead of emerging requirements.
  • When new legislation lands, you'll be the person who works out what it means for the business and drives the operational response – translating law into practical controls.
  • You'll facilitate leadership conversations on compliance risk and assurance, influencing how Origin Zero's leaders think about and manage their obligations.

What will you bring?

  • Demonstrated experience in compliance, regulatory affairs or obligations management, with a track record of owning obligations registers and driving accountability across complex organisations.
  • Experience with environmental or energy compliance – including carbon schemes, energy efficiency schemes such as REPS or EEIS, or similar regulatory frameworks – is highly valued.
  • The ability to take legislation and policy and translate it into operational processes that non-specialist teams can understand and act on.
  • Experience engaging with procurement and operational lifecycle processes, and an understanding of how compliance obligations intersect with contract and procurement frameworks.
  • Strong facilitation and influencing skills – you're someone who can hold a room of senior stakeholders and drive decisions on compliance matters without formal authority over those teams.
  • Rigorous, organised, and self-directed – able to manage multiple compliance workstreams simultaneously and know when to escalate.
