The Role


Origin Energy's Power Generation business has an exciting full-time permanent opportunity for an Instrumentation & Controls Technician to support maintenance at Eraring Power Station – Australia's largest power station.


To be considered for this highly sought after opportunity, you will need to demonstrate significant maintenance experience gained in complex heavy industrial plants (i.e. power generation/steel, mineral or chemical processing/paper mills or similar). Excellent working conditions on offer under 9 day fortnight EBA.


The Instrumentation & Controls Technician is a member of an experienced, highly skilled and flexible team that is responsible for maintaining the reliability of instrumentation, control and industrial computer systems at Eraring Power Station.


  • Boiler and Turbine digital control systems including Burner Management System (BMS) and Boiler - Turbine Run Up System (BTRU)
  • Main data logging computer systems and miscellaneous data loggers, including Exaquantum (Yokogawa Data Storage hardware & software):
    • Unit Simulator
    • Turbine Bypass System controls
    • Turbine Supervisory Systems, including all turbine speed and vibration monitoring equipment
  • All chemical instrumentation, transmitters, digital and analog controls associated with Chemical Control Rooms, Water Demineralising Plants, Feedwater Polishing Plants, Hydrogen Plants and Chlorine Plants
  • Flue Gas Oxygen measuring equipment
  • Mill coal feeder speed controllers (VVVF drives)
  • Programmable Control Systems (PCS) - workshop repairs of PCS hardware and any in-situ testing and repairs of CPUs, power supplies, and modules
  • Environmental instrumentation to enable compliance with government regulations including Smoke Density, SOX & NOX, Emission Monitoring Equipment, Carbon in Ash, Oil on Water, Saltwater Outlet Cooling Water Temperature
  • Unit control, tripping and protection devices


Is This You?


  • Qualified A-Grade Electrical licence essential
  • Minimum post-trade Advanced Diploma in Electrical/Electronic Engineering (or equivalent)
  • Certificate 3/Certificate 4 in Instrumentation (highly desirable)
  • Significant maintenance/reliability experience gained in complex heavy industrial plants (i.e. power generation/steel, mineral or chemical processing/paper mills or similar)
  • Previous experience with Yokogawa DCS highly advantageous
  • Demonstrated ability in interpreting electrical schematics, circuit diagrams and P&ID's toward root cause analysis and troubleshooting
  • Experience with working within a Permit to Work System
  • Sound understanding of Health Safety and Environmental practices as applied in an industrial environment
