About the role:

 

The Assistant Power Plant Operator plays a vital role working within a team responsible for 24/7 operations and maintenance. This position involves operating, testing, isolating and performing level one maintenance across various areas of the site, including main plant, ash and dust plant, coal handling, and auxiliary equipment associated with thermal power generation. Working as part of a broader Eraring team to ensure smooth plant operations and uphold safety standards.

 

Key responsibilities:

 

  • Assist in operating boilers, turbines, generators, auxiliary plant, dust & ash plant, coal plant, and high-voltage equipment.
  • Conduct routine inspections of operational and non-operational equipment to ensure plant availability and viability, utilising mobility devices for compliance tracking.
  • Perform routine testing of safety critical devices, firefighting equipment, carry out emergency lubrication, issue and manage ‘Permits to Work,’ and respond to plant emergencies such as fires, spills, and accidents.
  • Engage in process fault identification and resolution, ensure equipment is service-ready, and support plant maintenance activities to uphold operational efficiency.

  • Proven abilities in the identification and resolution of faults.
  • Knowledge of environmental aspects relating to emissions and discharge limits
  • On-going commitment to the review and update of operating documentation
  • Willingness to work shift work or day work as required.
  • Proven ability to work well independently and in a team environment
