About the role
Join our dynamic and high-performing team as a Resource Identification Lead where you will lead subsurface studies focused on growing APLNG’s Exploration Portfolio. This role aims to identify new resource opportunities and deliver a pipeline of Exploration and Appraisal activities that de-risk prospects and enhance portfolio value. The role also supports the progression of appraised resources toward development feasibility through close collaboration with the Resource Assessment Lead.

Lead strategic subsurface studies aimed at identifying new plays and expanding the Exploration portfolio, driving innovation and long-term value creation.

Design and recommend targeted work programs to de-risk both mature and emerging plays, with a sharp focus on maximising information value and advancing prospects toward commercial feasibility.

Define and manage exploration projects, ensuring seamless execution and rigorous data quality oversight.

Coordinate team priorities and workloads in partnership with the Resource Assessment Lead, guiding subsurface staff in delivering high-quality technical studies and managing exploration program execution.

Oversee the Exploration asset disposal strategy, including the planning and execution of well abandonment and surface rehabilitation campaigns, ensuring compliance and environmental stewardship.

Mentor and coach team members in Geoscience and play characterisation, fostering technical excellence and professional growth across the team.
About you
To be successful in this role you will come with extensive experience in upstream oil and gas, with a deep understanding of production management, together with demonstrated capability to plan, prioritise, and deliver high-value outcomes both independently and as part of a team.
More about you:

15+ years in the Oil & Gas sector, with a strong track record of leading high-performing subsurface technical teams.

Tertiary qualification in a Geoscience discipline.

Strategic expertise in play maturation, with proven success in developing and executing strategies that advance hydrocarbon opportunities from early exploration through to appraisal and development.

Project and program management experience, particularly in subsurface data acquisition, ensuring technical excellence and operational efficiency.

Ideally experience with Coal Seam Gas and Tight Gas sandstone reservoirs, particularly in Queensland or analogous geological settings.

Exceptional communication and influencing skills, with a proven ability to shape and implement technical strategy across diverse teams and Joint Venture environments.

Strong risk management mindset, with the ability to assess subsurface uncertainties, manage them effectively through project delivery, and clearly communicate risk-based decisions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Advanced leadership and project management capabilities, with experience leading cross-functional, on-site, and virtual teams to deliver complex, high-value outcomes.

Commercial acumen, including a solid grasp of economic and financial principles to support business case development, budgeting, and financial reporting.
