Join a team that's All Kinds of Useful
At Origin, being useful is more than a tagline - it’s how we approach work every day. As a collective, we’re a team that thrives on finding better ways, working together, and owning our impact. From powering homes to delivering award-winning internet and helping to lead Australia’s energy transition. If you’re driven by purpose and excited to be part of something bigger, we’d love to have you on the journey.
About the role:
Join Origin’s Brisbane-based Monitoring and Support Centre (MSC) as an Operations Engineer, supporting the safe, reliable and effective operation of our diverse generation portfolio.
Working within a 24/7 rotating shift environment, you’ll remotely monitor and support the operation and dispatch of generation assets including gas turbines, hydro and battery energy storage systems. This is a hands-on operational role where you’ll use technical knowledge, data and sound engineering judgement to respond to plant events, assess asset performance and support real-time operational decisions.
You’ll work closely with site teams, Trading, Engineering, Asset Performance and AEMO, while gaining broad exposure across Origin’s generation fleet and emerging energy technologies.
Why this role matters?
- Monitor and support the real-time operation and dispatch of generation assets across Origin’s portfolio.
- Assess plant capability, operating limits, performance trends and abnormal conditions to support safe and reliable operations.
- Respond to plant events and operational issues, escalating where required and helping coordinate an effective response.
- Use systems including SCADA, historian and other operational monitoring tools to analyse asset performance and identify issues.
- Work closely with AEMO, Trading, site operations, Engineering and Asset Performance to support operational decision-making.
- Support plant troubleshooting, incident investigations and technical analysis through review and interpretation of operating data.
- Contribute to improvements across MSC processes, procedures, automation, data analytics and emerging AI-enabled operational tools.
- Participate in the MSC’s 24/7 rotating shift roster, including operational handovers and event response.
What will you bring?
You’ll be technically minded, analytical and comfortable making sound decisions in a fast-moving operational environment. You’ll also bring:
- A relevant engineering, technical or science qualification, together with experience in generation operations or a control room environment.
- Working knowledge of electricity generation, ideally across gas, hydro and/or battery energy storage.
- Experience using SCADA, historian or similar operational monitoring systems.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret operational data and identify performance or reliability issues.
- Confidence applying technical or engineering judgement in time-critical and safety-critical situations.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work effectively across operational and technical teams.
- A strong commitment to safety, risk management and operational discipline.
- Flexibility to work within a 24/7 shift-based operating model.
Experience within the Australian electricity market, renewable or emerging generation technologies, condition monitoring, asset performance, automation or data analytics would also be highly regarded.
So, why join us?
This is an opportunity to build broad experience across Origin’s generation portfolio while working at the centre of real-time energy operations. You’ll be exposed to established generation technologies alongside batteries, digital operations and emerging technologies as Australia’s energy system continues to evolve.
