About the role:  
The Lead Estimator - Renewable Energy plays a pivotal role in setting up and overseeing the estimating function within the Development and Construction division. This position is essential for ensuring precise cost estimates for Origin Energy’s renewable energy projects, thereby supporting informed decision-making and successful project delivery. The Lead Estimator will craft detailed bottom-up estimates, apply cutting-edge estimating methodologies, and offer valuable insights through benchmark analysis.

Key Responsibilities?  

• Estimate Function Setup: Establish and implement a robust estimating system tailored to renewable energy projects. This includes writing documentation, procedures, and ensuring the system delivers industry-leading estimating outputs.
• Estimate Development: Lead the creation of detailed, bottom-up cost estimates for renewable energy projects, covering all financial aspects, including materials, labour, overhead, and project management costs.
• Benchmark Analysis: Develop and maintain a benchmark database to compare bid estimates with industry standards, providing insights for decision-making and enhancing the organization’s estimating practices.
• Process Implementation: Create and implement standardized estimating processes, templates and plans that align with the Development and Construction Project Controls framework, ensuring consistency and accuracy across all projects in the Portfolio.
• Team Leadership and Collaboration: Mentor the project controls team, facilitate workshops with stakeholders, and encourage innovation in estimating techniques and practices.

What will you bring?  

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Quantity Surveying (preferred), or related field required; advanced degrees or project management certifications are a plus.
• 5+ years in the energy sector, especially in renewables (wind, solar, battery storage); deep industry knowledge essential.
• Proven experience in accurate, large-scale project estimates, both conceptual and detailed.
• Strong analytical skills to interpret complex data, spot trends, and make accurate projections.
• Excellent communication skills for explaining complex concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
