About the role:  

Be the advocate and accountable owner for commissioning of HV systems, SCADA & controls and hold point testing (R2) for a suite of Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) Projects totalling over 1.5GW.


Lead the successful oversight of principal contractors commissioning schedules, plans and execution activities, hold point testing (R2) and contract performance testing with support of the relevant Origin project delivery and grid connections teams.


Why this role matters:  


  • Build strong people relationships to drive each project’s commissioning scope to a successful outcome, working collaboratively with matrix staff across Origin.
  • Project Management of commissioning projects, including successful delivery of HV systems, SCADA & controls, hold point testing (R2) and contract performance testing in collaboration with Origin’s appointed principal contractors.
  • Provide excellent technical leadership; reviewing, consulting and advising on commissioning plans and providing feedback to improve quality and process.
  • Review and approve principal contractor’s FAT and SAT documents and attendance of FAT and SAT.
  • Thorough onsite pre-commissioning tests and commissioning of new and refurbished parts and systems.
  • Technical assessments, problem solving, maintenance and fault finding in HV and protection systems, SCADA and control systems.
  • Co-ordination of switching and outages with operations, trading and external stakeholders.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with all relevant internal and external stakeholders, including TNSPs, AEMS, government, regulators and external bodies.


What will you bring?  


  • Degree qualification in Electrical Engineering (Chartered preferred).
  • Demonstrated experience of safe completion, pre-commissioning, commissioning, hold point testing (R2), performance testing and handover to Operations of large-scale renewable energy projects (solar, wind, and battery storage).
  • A deep understanding and hands-on experience of commissioning, HV systems, SCADA & controls, hold point testing (R2) and performance testing of complex HV renewable projects into the National Electricity Market.
  • Interface management expertise with key internal and external stakeholders – such as AEMO, TNSPs (i.e., TransGrid, PowerLink), OEMs and BoP Principal Contractors and Origin’s project, grid connection, regulatory compliance, trading, and operations teams – will be critical to the successful completion of each project.
  • Deep Knowledge of project management and commissioning management systems and principles.
  • Regularly travel is an essential aspect of this position, to both sites, and to test new equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability prepare and present written reports and presentations to a high standard.
  • Ability to build and retain high performing teams.
  • Excellent communication skills.
