About the role:
The Business Development and Strategy team is responsible for driving value and performance across the entire APLNG upstream portfolio by identifying, prioritising, and delivering value improvement opportunities.
The Commercial Lead plays a key role in evaluating commercial decisions, shaping strategy, and leading multi-disciplinary commercial projects that support APLNG’s strategic objectives.
This role also requires strong stakeholder influence and the ability to manage complex counterparties to achieve aligned commercial outcomes.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Lead commercial and economic analysis, including guiding the development of robust economic models and synthesising complex, multi-disciplinary inputs to support informed decision-making.
- Anticipate medium - long-term opportunities and risks and develop strategies to maximise value and manage exposure for APLNG’s operated and non-operated assets.
- Drive commercial negotiations by defining strategy, identifying counterparty positions, developing tactics, and securing stakeholder alignment on negotiation approaches.
- Generate and assess alternative deal structures, ensuring alignment with long-term business strategy and effective risk management.
- Identify and progress business development opportunities, leading multi-disciplinary teams through screening, evaluation, execution, and completion of transactions.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with counterparties, shareholders, and industry stakeholders, influencing outcomes and facilitating constructive discussions.
- Leverage industry networks and insights to shape high-quality strategy development and support value-accretive outcomes.
Skills & Requirements
- 10+ years’ commercial experience in the energy sector, ideally with exposure to Queensland CSG operations.
- Proven ability to identify, assess, and execute commercial opportunities through strategic thinking and an entrepreneurial mindset.
- Strong influencing, negotiation, and problem-solving skills, with experience leading complex commercial negotiations and managing complex stakeholder relationships.
- Highly collaborative communicator with a track record of building effective internal and external stakeholder relationships.
- Demonstrated ability to drive value creation through operational improvements, capital efficiency, innovation, and effective risk management.
- Comfortable operating in complex environments, with the ability to adapt to changing priorities and influence senior stakeholders.
- Proactive, resilient, and outcomes-focused, consistently seeking opportunities and managing risks to maximise business value.
