THE ROLE
 

Reporting to the Group Manager - Asset Decommissioning, Demolition & Closure, the Closure Approvals Manager will play a crucial role in managing and executing all the environmental aspects of Generations closure processes. The role will be responsible for identifying and obtaining the necessary environmental approvals and permitting to facilitate the safe decommissioning, demolition and rehabilitation of Generation's retiring assets. A thorough understanding of environmental regulations, statutory approval processes, risk management, and project management is essential to ensure that closure processes are conducted safely, compliantly, and efficiently. At all times, the role will deliver upon Origins Purpose, guided by Origins Values, Behaviours and Leadership Code.

The role is accountable to ensure that all internal and external stakeholders are consulted to support effective decisions on the strategy and direction of the function and the wider business unit.

 

This role will also be responsible for:
 

Strategic Leadership and Planning:

  • Support the development and execution of the approvals strategy for asset closures.
  • Identify and plan the environmental approvals process across different Australian jurisdictions.
  • Provide strategic advice on risk assessment and mitigation strategies to align with business objectives.

Documentation and Compliance Management:

  • Oversee the preparation of environmental impact assessments (EIAs), environmental management strategies, and other necessary documentation for regulatory submissions.
  • Review and assess compliance with approvals, management plans, and related documentation.

Risk Management:

  • Evaluate and manage environmental risks associated with asset closures.
  • Develop and implement contingency plans to address potential environmental issues.
  • Provide Subject Matter Expert (SME) advice on risk mitigation and management strategies.

Support and Team Development:

  • Assist and mentor other advisors and team members to foster a capable and engaged team environment.
  • Prepare and support the development of post-approval documentation as required.

Budget and Resource Management:

  • Advise on and manage closure budgets related to environmental and planning permits and post-approval requirements.
  • Ensure resource allocation aligns with the execution phase of closure activities.

Procedures and Protocols:

  • Develop and implement environmental management procedures and protocols for compliance during the closure execution phase.

Regulatory Relationships and Stakeholder Coordination:

  • Maintain and manage key relationships with regulatory agencies.
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders to achieve optimal outcomes and ensure functional objectives are met.

Execution Phase Support:

  • Provide SME support throughout the execution phase of closure activities, ensuring adherence to environmental and regulatory requirements

 

 

IS THIS YOU?
 

We are looking for a candidate with strong experience in obtaining development approvals and implementation of post approval requirements. As we don’t currently have a team in place, a hands-on approach will be required until the team is established.


You will have:
 

  • Degree in Environmental Planning, Science, or Engineering.
  • Demonstrated experience in development approvals and compliance within energy, heavy industry, or resource sectors.
  • Expertise in Federal statutory processes (EPBC Act) and statutory processes in at least two State jurisdictions (including NSW).
  • Ability to manage consultants and project scopes.
  • Experience in interacting with regulatory bodies and preparing submissions.
  • Strong understanding of risk management processes.
  • Excellent in coordination, time management, multitasking, and prioritising.
  • Strong skills in building and managing relationships across all levels.
