About the role

We’re looking for a Regulatory Advisor to join our Regulatory Policy team within Corporate Affairs, supporting Origin’s engagement with regulators, governments and market bodies at a pivotal time for the industry.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, this is a role for someone who enjoys working at the intersection of policy, regulation, compliance, markets and strategy, and who wants to see their work directly influence outcomes in the business.

The energy transition is driving broad reaching reform across wholesale and retail markets, network regulation, financial markets and climate policy. Governments and regulators are increasingly active in driving change and seeking information to support their understanding of markets, and expectations on industry participants continue to grow as a result. Key responsibilities include;

  • Develop and articulate regulatory policy positions aligned with Origin’s strategy, including drafting high‑quality submissions to key regulatory bodies.
  • Analyse regulatory and policy change, assessing impacts on Origin and the broader energy sector.
  • Coordinate responses to regulatory notices from bodies such as the AER and ACCC, working closely with internal subject matter experts and Legal.
  • Monitor the regulatory environment, identifying emerging risks, trends and opportunities from market reports and regulatory decisions.
  • Engage with internal stakeholders across trading, generation, retail, strategy, risk, carbon and government relations to understand business impacts.
  • Build strong relationships with regulators, government stakeholders and industry peers.

What will you bring?

You will be someone who thrives in a fast‑moving environment and enjoys connecting policy detail with commercial reality. Ideally, you’ll have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in economics, commerce, law or a related discipline/ Postgraduate qualification (e.g. law, business, strategy) are highly regarded
  • Demonstrated experience in regulatory, policy, compliance or advisory roles within the energy sector
  • A strong understanding of Australia’s wholesale electricity and gas markets, but with an ability to engage on other policy and regulatory matters as required (e.g. retail markets)
  • Experience engaging with regulatory bodies and consultation processes
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex issues clearly and persuasively
  • Strong analytical and critical‑thinking capability, with a holistic approach to problem‑solving
  • The ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively across teams

So why join us?

  • 21 weeks of paid parental leave with flexible return options.
  • Thrive in a culture of personal and professional growth.
